Dr. Deirdre Ryan is an author, Clinical Psychologist and Co-Founder of Aruna Psychology. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.

Deirdre is also a Board Approved Supervisor and supervises Psychologists from a range of backgrounds and specialisations.

Deirdre’s mission is to provide individuals with a supportive, warm and non-judgemental space through which they have the opportunity to gently and safely explore their concerns. She works creatively from a humanistic perspective encouraging individuals to move towards personal growth and self fulfilment. Interpersonal and therapeutic skills aim to foster supportive relationships in individual, family and group therapy.

Deirdre is experienced in several therapeutic approaches including; Integrative, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Play, Narrative and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. She also has extensive experience in the provision of psychological assessments. Deirdre has a particular interest in the treatment of several areas of psychological distress including; substance dependence, problem gambling, body image dissatisfaction, emerging personality disorders, mood disorders, attachment difficulties, relationship difficulties, LGBT specialist support, anxiety and depression.

Deirdre has worked in a range of community and hospital settings in the past including; The Royal Children’s Hospital, Headspace (The National Youth Mental Health Organisation), Turning Point Drug Treatment Centre and St Vincent’s Hospital (Dublin). Deirdre is also a member of the Body Image and Disordered Eating research team in La Trobe University.
